Get a check up from your doctor before trying this, it is an important point to make as you will be trying to find the maximum your heart rate.

The best way to find this out is to do it with an exercise scientist who will test you on a treadmill. The next best way is to follow this program:

Head down to you local oval and do a few laps. Every 200m or so you increase the pace.

Your first lap half lap should easy and you should be able to hold a conversation.

The next 200m increase your pace a little.

At the next 200m mark you should be going quite hard and be unable to hold a conversation, but should not be at full pace. Hold this pace for a full lap, then go flat stick for as long as you can.

If you can sprint do that, but it is important to go as fast as you can, while still holding your form.

Whatever your heart rate is when you stop will be very close to your max.
