Motivation is different for everyone: The key is simple. You need to find out what motivates you best, find the thing that gets your juices flowing.

Whatever you do don’t get down on yourself, just make a commitment to training the next day. Life can get in the way, and often if you feel too tired, you probably are. Your body does not miss a trick, listen to it, it will tell you when to have a big session and when to rest. Not enough people listen to their bodies and they ignore the signals at their own peril.

Check out our top five tips for motivating yourself.

  1. It is important to set goals. During your weight loss hit the scales and record how much weight you drop. Take your measurements, measure your chest, stomach, and biceps and record them every two weeks. This will show you that you are making inroads, and will motivate you to keep on working hard.
  2. Variety is the spice of life. Vary your exercise, if you are planning to go for a walk and find yourself dreading it, go for a bike ride. By changing it up as much as possible you’ll be more likely to stick to it.
  3. Exercise with a friend. If you set a time and place to meet someone, you’ll be less likely to back out. You will be cheating yourself, but also letting down a friend.
  4. Exercise first thing in the morning. Habits are as hard to set as they are to break, but once your early morning session becomes a habit you’re away.
  5. Plan your exercise. Make a weekly chart and stick it on your fridge. Write down what you plan to do each day and mark them off when completed.
